Shrouded in mist and gloom... it feels like October rather than June...
The ferry terminal is really easy to find and well organised (also thanks to the lady in my sat nav). There are ferries sailing to Riga, Helsinki and Tallinn at essentially the same time. All is easy to follow; even for me.
But for everyone there is a sense of expectation.. either travelling on holiday or going home... that sense expectation is carried into the ferry.. Multiple nationalities including Russian, Chinese, Scandinavian nations, Baltic nations and.. me. Lots to investigate and deciding what may be worth experiencing.. the cabaret show (Chinese acrobats), the disco (god forbid), the sauna suite (no 'modesty' clothes allowed), the 'casino' or the restaurants, bars or the 'pub'... i'm used to the idea of a ferry being the Dover-Calais sprint. This is a 'cruise' according to the web site....
I chose the grill restaurant; I may differ on what I call a rack of lamb.. it isn't spare ribs of lamb.. but the coffee is ok....
It has taken nearly 4 hours to slowly cruise through the Stockholm archipelago; now we are in open water...and I can now feel the swell of open water ... this is the reason it takes 16 hours from Stockholm to Tallinn.
I am in no rush...
I feel that this is the start of my real European Adventure.. leaving safe and comfortable Europe for something more literal.. something to explain as I travel further....
